Ex Ghana great Abdul Razak has said current day players have lost the real essence of playing for the national team in the wake of the premature retirement of the Ayew brothers.
The Marseille duo has decided to withdraw their services to the Black Stars after being dropped for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

While Andre says problems with the team’s management has affected him emotionally and psychologically to the extent he cannot give off his best his younger brother also wants assurance of regular call ups before making himself available for the Black Stars. And Razak who was part of Ghana’s African Cup winning squad in 1978 says the patriotic bit of playing for the national team is completely lost on modern day players. Now you cannot compare our time to the present day,he told Accra-based Hot FM.

The money aspect is there so they can decide not to play.
In our time, you have to work hard before you can play for the team.
It is however not the same now and that is sad,” he said.

The news of the retirement of the two brothers has sharply divided opinions in Ghana with many insisting the sons of Ghana legend Abedi Pele be left alone.
