Next week, President John Dramani Mahama will be visiting Atlanta and Ghanaian communities living in the U.S.
As you know, Ghana discovered oil and gas in commercial quantities in 2007. Since that time, legislation has been passed setting a strong precedent for protecting the rights of Ghanaians and ensuring that the benefits of natural resources generate a lasting impact in the lives of Ghanaians, in particular the most vulnerable.
During the visit to Atlanta, Dr. Robert Yaw Owusu – formerly of the Ghana Baptist Convention, now pastor of Amazing Grace Baptist Church of Atlanta and the Ghanaian Ministers Association of Georgia – will be presenting President Mahama a letter from the local Ghanaian community asking him to support policies to ensure the responsible and transparent development of oil and gas resources.
If you are interested in speaking with Dr. Owusu, or President Mahama’s visit to Atlanta, please let me know. These policies are important for Ghana to avoid the resource curse and benefit from its rich natural resources.
