MISSISSAUGA, ON — June 27, 2026 — Ghanaian-Canadian leadership took center stage at the sold-out inaugural TEDxMississauga 2026, demonstrating the growing influence of Ghana’s diaspora in shaping innovation, culture, entrepreneurship, and community development across Canada.

Held at the Maja Prentice Theatre under the inspiring theme “Ripple Effects,” the independently organized TEDx event welcomed more than 150 attendees for a full day of thought-provoking presentations, artistic performances, and meaningful conversations centered on the power of small actions to create transformational change.

Charles Mensah – Co-Organizer

The milestone event was co-founded by two accomplished Ghanaian-Canadians, Charles Mensah, TEDxMississauga’s Co-Organizer and License Holder, and Gabriel Odartei, Co-Organizer and Executive Producer. Together, they led months of planning and collaboration to bring Mississauga’s first TEDx experience to life, creating a platform that celebrated diverse ideas while highlighting the contributions of Black and immigrant communities.

“Our vision was to create an experience where local ideas could inspire global change while showcasing the incredible diversity of talent that exists within Mississauga,” said Gabriel Odartei. “Seeing the theatre filled to capacity for our inaugural event is a testament to the community’s desire for meaningful conversations and collaboration.”

The event featured 18 speakers representing a wide range of disciplines including public policy, entrepreneurship, arts and creativity, mental health, social innovation, science, nature, and artificial intelligence. Opening remarks were delivered by Member of Parliament Rechie Valdez, representing Mississauga–Streetsville, who welcomed attendees and emphasized the importance of leadership, innovation, and inclusive communities.

Strong Ghanaian Representation

Ghanaian excellence was evident throughout the day’s program, reflecting the diaspora’s growing leadership across Canada’s cultural and professional landscape.

Internationally recognized Ghanaian-Canadian media personality and content creator Ivy Prosper served as the event’s Master of Ceremonies, guiding audiences through the day’s presentations with her signature energy and charisma.

Entertainment was provided by two-time Juno Award-winning Ghanaian-Canadian recording artist and producer Rich Kidd (Ritchie Acheampong), whose performance added a vibrant cultural dimension to the event.

Among the distinguished speakers were three influential Ghanaian voices:
