Prior to his victory in the just ended U.S. elections, President-elect Joe Biden recorded poor results in the primaries.

It was feared that Joe Biden’s poor performance in the primaries will be replicated in the presidential election.

However, it showed that black voters voted massively for Biden. For example Black voters in key battleground states like Georgia, Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania came through for Biden, thereby leading to his win.

The appeal of the Biden campaign to Black Americans can be attributed to the work of a Ghanaian, Adjoa Asamoah.

As the campaign’s National Advisor for Black Engagement, Asamoah’s role was think of various ways to engage the black community including the African Diaspora and the Panhel family. The strategies developed also had to make Biden an appealing candidate to black voters.

Asamoah said she resolved at age nine to help Black people move forward and that has been her lifetime commitment since then.

She told Watch The Yard that “my father was born under colonization in what would become Ghana and retired as an Africana studies and political science professor. My mother was born in the Jim Crow south, and experienced racism on multiple fronts. Both were civically engaged, and I was born into the movement, with their lived experiences informing my career choices.”

“By the age of nine, I had gone to the birthplace of both parents, and in witnessing Black people struggle in two different countries on two different continents, as unbelievable as I realize it sounds, I declared then I would dedicate my life to moving Black people forward,” she added.

Since she took this decision, she has served in various capacities, studied and taught on subjects that enhance the Black community.

Asamoah describes herself as a successful impact strategist, international influencer, and racial equity, diversity, and inclusion champion.

Her expertise includes delivering targeted training and leveraging cultural intelligence and behavioural psychology to create winning campaigns.
