Toronto-based charity Ghana Medical Help (GMH) will host a two-part fundraising event in Toronto’s downtown core this spring season. Founded by Ontario-native Kelly Hadfield, niece of celebrated Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield, the charity runs health and education projects in Ghana.
The event, which is actually two back-to-back events, is titled Summer Kick-off Dance Party & Afro Music Showcase. First up, the Summer Kick-off Dance Party will take place on April 29th at Orchid Nightclub (82 Peter St.). The summer-themed night will include exclusive access to a one-hour DJ show from Toronto’s own “The Kount,” who has established himself as a bonafide talent among a thriving local DJ community. The Kount, signed by Fête Records, is described as a Funk, R&B, Soul/Hip-Hop artist and has garnered over one million plays on his Soundcloud account found here: www.soundcloud.com/the-kount
Event attendees will also receive full access to Orchid’s entire club, thanks to the generous support of Orchid’s management team. Doors open at 10:00 pm and tickets can be purchased on Ghana Medical Help’s website (wwww.ghanamedicalhelp.com) for $15.00 per pass.
On May 10th, GMH will roll out the second half of their fundraising initiative at Revival Bar (783 College St.) The Afro Music Showcase will feature live performances by select Toronto-based African musicians. Attendees will be entertained by an array of musical styles with both mainstream and culturally unique instruments being showcased. Doors open at 7:30 pm and tickets are also for sale at wwww.ghanamedicalhelp.com for $15.00 per pass.
Those interested in both events are encouraged to purchase a “Club Passport” for $25.00, which will provide full-access to both venues on both dates.
All funds raised via ticket sales will be allocated to life-saving medical aid and education projects operated by GMH in northern Ghana. A loyal supporter of the charity – who chose to remain anonymous – has pledged to match all dollars raised during this fundraising initiative.

Ghana Medical Help is committed to sustainably advancing the quality and availability of basic health care in northern Ghana for 2 million people.
Roots
Ghana Medical Help emerged in July of 2010 to alleviate the immense lack of primary care equipment resources in the Builsa District Hospital that were enabling frequent preventable mortalities. It was at this time that Kelly Hadfield, our founder, witnessed the injustice to human life that resulted in these communities from limited resources (human and equipment), poor funding, geographic isolation, high staff turnover, and a lack of culturally safe care.

The operations of Ghana Medical Help could not function without the generosity of its partners across North America and Ghana, which consist of medical equipment manufacturers and distributors, charitable organizations, individual donors, hospitals, community service clubs, and Ghana Health Services. These partners enable us to purchase, collect, ship overseas, and deliver medical aid each year.
Volunteers
The Ghana Medical Help team is composed of skilled, innovative, and passionate volunteers from across North America, Ghana and the UK. Tackling the major barriers to health care in northern Ghana, we work tirelessly together to acquire and provide the most needed equipment resources, develop comprehensive training programs for staff, conduct on-site assessment research quarterly, and fund-raise.
